New Vital Signs Report: Children with sickle cell anemia are at risk for stroke and other complications

Sickle cell anemia, a blood disorder that primarily affects Black and African American people, can cause severe pain and shorten life expectancy by more than 20 years. Yet, few children with the disease are getting the recommended screening and treatment to prevent life-threatening complications such as stroke.
